Mrs. Sonali Shivlani
(Prenatal lactation & Child nutrition counselor)
Sonali is an Internationally Certified Child Birth and Lactation Educator. She completed her certification from CAPPA – U.S.A. in April 2004.
Training covered all birth related aspects beginning with Diet and Nutrition during Pregnancy, to the Common Concerns to Ante-Natal Exercise. Various methods of child birth such as Vaginal, Assisted Births and C Sections were also covered.
Comfort and Pain relief measures both pharmacological and non – pharmacological were encompassed. Post Partum issues such as Child Care, Breast Feeding and Recovery of Mom were a part and parcel of the training program.
Sonali began practicing as a Child Birth Trainer in May 2004 with BEAMS, a speciality hospital for women which is owned and managed by Dr. Rakesh Sinha in Khar. The course which was put together covered all above aspects of birth as well as a little bit of personal practical experience.
Feb 2005, was the set up of her own private centre where she introduced the concept of the same program in a work shop format which was especially suited to the working woman.
Aug 2005 saw the beginning of the association with CLAY Wellness a Bandra based Wellness centre which aims at providing specialized personal service to its clients.
Sep 2006 brought in a special and unique feature to the program – post partum Breast Feeding support. This is something which is not available to the Indian woman once she leaves the hospital and with the focus again shifting to breast feeding and more and more women wanting to breast feed it becomes a welcome addition.
2006 also saw the introduction of the program at Sujay Hospital at Andheri W.
In Nov 2006 she was signed on by www.indiwo.com a CNBC TV18 venture as part of an expert panel for pregnancy and child care.
In Mar 2007 she became part of the expert panel of Mother & Baby, UK’s premier mom and baby magazine.
In 2008, she completed her Lactation Educators Program from CAPPA – U.S.A. and has a lactation counseling program at CLAY Wellness for moms and moms – to – be.
In 2009, she completed her accreditation with La Leche League which is an International Breast Feeding Organisation and is now in charge of the LLL – Suburbs group.
In 2009, Sonali has taken up the post of Executive Director - CAPPA India and now heads the Indian operations.
In 2010, she has written the Maternal Fitness Educator Program which was launched internationally and she now heads the program for CAPPA International.
Since inception, Sonali’s Pregnancy Program has seen more than 10000 pregnant couples go through this unique course which helps to prepare them not only for the pregnancy and the birth but also for the months thereafter.
